ABOUT LURCH
LURCH is a Portland-based, graphic design focused print magazine that highlights emerging artists from Portland and the broader Pacific Northwest creative communities.
Founded in 2022 by Emma Wiseman and Anna Volk, LURCH began as a project aimed at bringing together different corners of Portland’s arts communities.
Each issue is built around an open-ended theme and features a vibrant and wide range of contributors.
From punk poets and sappy chapbook writers to experimental musicians, film photographers, designers, and sculptors, LURCH’s goal is to provide space for likeminded individuals to share their work.
In addition to publishing our magazine, we host art events, and shows, as well as actively engage in Portland’s zine and arts community.
We’ve taken part in the Independent Publishers Panel through Literary Arts and the Small Press Publishing: In an Interconnected World panel through the Portland Small Press & Art Book Fair.
We’ve tabled at the Portland Art Book Fair, Portland Zine Symposium, Portland Small Press & Art Book Fair, Reed Zine Fest, and Seattle Art Book Fair. And members of our team have also helped organize the annual Portland Zine Symposium and the Portland Small Press & Art Book Fair. We’re also involved in an ongoing Independent Publishers Research Project with BERM magazine

EMMA WISEMANCo-Founder, Art Direction & Communications
Emma is a cofounder of LURCH, art director, and head of communications. If you’ve talked to LURCH you’d probably talked to Emma. Emma likes to have ten projects going on at once, making fancy typography layouts, and event planning.
Emma likes to collect troll dolls, gnomes, perfume, zines, and art books. She also self publishes her own newspaper called Shifty Gnome News.

ANNA VOLK Co-Founder, Art Direction, Website & Social Media
Anna is a cofounder of LURCH, art director, and designer. She’s a mastermind behind LURCH’s quirky visuals. With the perfect blend of creativity and organization, Anna keeps everything running smoothly, ensuring our zine stays cohesive, our website up to date, and even designed the LURCH logo.
Anna’s a board game creator, occasional painter, social butterfly, Hot Pocket connoisseur, and animal lover.

ELLEN LYONS
Design & Production
International woman of mystery. Ellen makes the production happen. Whether it’s a cover photoshoot, or cutting out vinyl for lurch murch - she’s there. Ellen joined LURCH on our second issue and has been the woman with the grid bringing organization to our layouts.
